Growing up an athlete my whole life, working out has grown to be a huge passion of mine. Recently, the University of Toronto announced some much anticipated news regarding gym workouts both at the Athletic Center and at Goldring. Clicking on this link will take you to the page that will tell you all you need to know about attending open gym! Although there are still capacity limits, front desk staff will be monitoring this to make sure that the gym space is still safe. As always, a green U-check is required to be able to utilize the facilities.
With these restrictions dropped, this now means you no longer have to book a time slot. You can show up whenever your heart desires getting a workout in. Likewise, you are now able to utilize the gym for as long as you’d like! Before, you were only able to book the gym for 45 minutes. For some people, like myself, this is just not enough time to get in everything you would like to get done. Now there is no need to worry about little details, you’re able to come and go as you please.
You bet I was first in line to take advantage of this opportunity. My friend and I decided to take a trip to Goldring. We began our workout by rolling out our bodies. This is a good way to wake up your muscles and get rid of any soreness before heading into your dynamic warm-up. While she chose to do a weight-based workout, I chose to do more of a cardio based workout. I hopped on the elliptical and did a 30 minute interval workout. It was a leg-burner! Once I had completed my cardio on the elliptical, I grabbed a mat and did a 10 minute ab circuit that consisted of some reverse crunches, planks, toe-touches and more. Altogether I was at Goldring for just over an hour, start to finish. I left feeling great. There’s nothing a good sweat can’t fix!
