KPE students and grads are front and centre at conference in Hong Kong

KPE students, grads, and professors put on a total of one symposium, three posters, and six presentations and won a number of awards during the 17th annual International Society of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity (ISBNPA) in Hong Kong.

The Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education made quite a showing at the recent International Society of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity (ISBNPA) meeting in Hong Kong. This was the 17th annual meeting of the minds in this field and included an outstanding line-up of keynote speakers, oral and poster presentations, and pre-conference workshops.

Our KPE students, grads, and professors put on a total of one symposium, three posters, and six presentations and won a number of awards that included financial incentives, registration, and membership fees. KPE’s Professor Catherine Sabiston was in attendance and provided this exciting summary of honours:

1) Linda Trinh won best abstract in the Cancer Prevention and Management special interest group. Her poster was titled: Comparison of physical activity cut-points for quality of life in breast cancer survivors.

2) Angela Fong (PhD graduate) won best early career abstract in the Cancer Prevention and Management special interest group. Her work was titled: Informing oncology care provider training and facilitators for physical activity counselling: Understanding intrinsic and environmental factors.

3) Isabelle Dore (postdoctoral fellow) was runner up for best abstract in the Child and Families special interest group. Her oral presentation was titled: Childhood sport profiles predict mental health in adolescence.

4) Anika Gentile (PhD student) won best abstract for the Motivation and Behavior Change special interest group. She had an oral presentation titled: The effect of healthcare practitioner autonomy support for exercise on year-long trajectories of change in autonomous and controlled exercise motivation among breast cancer survivors.

5) Angela Fong (PhD graduate) also won best early career researcher for the entire organization!

6) Daniel Santa Mina put on an internationally-representative symposium showcasing exercise prehabilitation in oncology, titled: Healthy in, healthy out: The role of exercise and nutrition in prehabilitation for cancer surgery.

 

In addition to the awards handed out at the conference, Anika Gentile and Madison Vani (PhD students) were both awarded International Graduate Conference Travel grants by the North American Society for the Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity (NASPSPA) to present their work in Hong Kong.
