The Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education’s Sport and Performance Psychology Lab was well represented this year at the annual Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) conference. The largest annual sport psychology conference worldwide, AASP features workshops, lectures, panels and symposia from applied practitioners who work with pro and elite athletes, collegiate, high school and youth sport athletes, and tactical and non-sport performance populations.
KPE faculty members and graduate students put on a total of six presentations and one symposium, and brought home a Young Investigator Award, won by Ellen MacPherson.
MacPherson and Gretchen Kerr presented on sport psychology consultants' roles in helping professional athletes cope with experiences of public shaming on social media.
Caroline Fusco and Ali Greey presented on inclusivity for LGBTQ+ athletes and the importance and impact of direct equity initiatives in sport contexts.
Gretchen Kerr, Ashley Stirling, Erin Willson, & Alexia Tam did a symposium on maltreatment in sport and the implications for the field of sport psychology.
Zoe Poucher and Katherine Tamminen presentation explored the intersection of organizational structure and social support in Olympic sport.
Rachel Jewett, Gretchen Kerr and Katherine Tamminen delivered a narrative analysis of university sport retirement and athlete mental health.
Anthony Battaglia, Gretchen Kerr and Ashley Stirling’s presentation explored youth hockey goalies' benching experiences.
Katherine Tamminen and Courtney Braun gave a presentation on testing a coping intervention among high performance youth soccer players and parents.
