You are invited to participate in a research study in the Mental Health and Physical Activity Center at the University of Toronto examining the relationship between cognitive and physical performance. In this experiment, you will be asked to complete two simple cognitive tasks and two isometric handgrip tasks. During the cognitive task, your pupil diameter, affective valence, and emotional arousal will be assessed using eye tracking, facial recognition, and skin conductance technology, respectively. You will also answer questionnaires regarding your fatigue, motivation, mood, and level of arousal throughout the session.
Are you:
1) between 18 – 25 years of age, and
2) have normal vision or corrected-to-normal vision, and
3) free from major neurological conditions, previous arm injuries, medical conditions contraindicating maximal hand muscle activity, and
4) meet the current physical activity guidelines (150 minutes of moderate to vigorous intensity aerobic activity each week).
If so, you may qualify to participate in this study. You will be compensated for 1-hour of your time ($10). The minor risks associated with participation in this study will be explained to you on first contact with the experimenter. At the same time, we will ask some questions to confirm your eligibility.
